Charles spent much of his life studying and working in the world of maths and science. After many years of looking for a way to use his skills working outside with his hands, he signed up for the Shift Bristol Practical Sustainability Course in 2016.

On the Shift course, he completed what he didn’t know at the time would be his first roundhouse build of many. He went on to work on many roundhouses, roundwood timber frames, traditional timber frames and other buildings such as compost toilets, saunas and shepherds huts with a focus on using local and sustainably sourced timber and natural materials.

He eventually was appointed as a fellow tutor of the Shift roundhouse build, along with the rest of our team.
